The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association — an international association with chapters in countries and states — brings together practitioners, people in recovery, providers, policy-makers, and researchers who advance the practice of psychiatric rehabilitation as vital to the recovery of people with severe mental illnesses.
We believe that psychiatric rehabilitation services should be:
- Evidence-based, having demonstrated their effectiveness through science;
- Collaborative, person-directed, and individualized; and
- Oriented toward helping people with psychiatric disabilities rediscover skills and identify resources in their communities for a satisfying, successful life.
Nationally, PRA provides online and live training and works closely with the commission that sets standards and formally recognizes Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioners. PRA maintains an office in McLean, VA, to advance psychiatric rehabilitation in public policy debates in the nation’s capital.
Here in Kentucky, KyPRA provides continuing education on best practices, meets with state legislators and members of the executive branch, and advocates on behalf of people with psychiatric disabilities who don’t have access to supports for recovery in the community. Learn more about us on the other pages of our website. KyPRA members receive discounted registration for KyPRA-sponsored continuing education events.
Membership in KyPRA is through the national PRA membership portal. A range of membership options is available. Peer Support Specialists and advocates should find “Associate” membership affordable. The “Individual” membership is perfect for practitioners who need the most up-to-date research and information delivered to their door. The rehabilitation and recovery staff of PRA “Organizational Members” are automatically eligible for KyPRA-member benefits, so organizational membership is a powerful way to promote recovery practices among staff.
